LUNCH PROGRAM

Children are encouraged to remain at school at lunchtime under the supervision of teachers and adults. This time together allows for socialization and physical activity that promote children’s development.

A student will choose to either stay at school or be picked up to go home. This decision is made by parents in August and will not be altered.

CK offers the Archdiocese’s lunch program administered by Food Service Professionals. Lunch and/or milk may be ordered monthly. Students will eat lunch together in the Regency Room. Children will have outdoor recess whenever weather allows.

The lunch break begins at 11:35 am and ends at 12:15 pm. The lunch period is split into two sessions with alternating eating and recess times. Kindergarten -Grade  2 and Grades 7 & 8  eat at 11:35 am. Grades 3-6 eat at 11:55 am. This arrangement addresses several safety concerns regarding the children. Smaller children will be allowed a longer eating time if necessary.

Parents may choose to take their children home during the lunch break. It is our understanding that parents who elect to have their children leave school at lunch will provide adult supervision. If a situation arises in which it is evident  that no adult is present, the student will be required to stay at school for lunch for the remainder of the year.

A fee will be charged depending on the number of days the student has lunch at school. This fee covers the cost of adult lunch supervision. Parents should make this decision aware that this choice is effective for the entire year.

Parents requesting their child home for lunch every day are required to complete and sign a form stating the request. If a form is not on file, your child will stay at school for lunch. There are no student or adult crossing guards during the lunch period. We ask for your support for the success of this program.

Students should behave appropriately during lunch to provide a pleasant environment for all students.

Lunch Room Rules include:

1.     Speak in a normal manner.

2.     Remain seated, and ask permission to leave your seat.

3.     Clean up all garbage on tables and floor and deposit it in the waste can when instructed by lunchroom supervisors.

4.     Line up only when told to do so by a teacher or parent.

Those students who choose not to follow these simple rules will have the following consequences:

1.     If an individual breaks the lunch rules, he/she will be sent to the Time Out Teacher’s classroom.

2.     If the behavior continues, the student will be dealt with on an individual basis.

3.     If the entire lunch room/class breaks rules, there will be a silent lunch for that group on the following day.
