School Uniform Policy

School Uniform

From the opening day of school until October 15, students in grades K through 8 may wear dress shorts (no athletic wear except on gym day) to school rather than pants or skirts, or jumpers.  Dress shorts must be khaki or navy blue and of reasonable length, no more than two-inches above the knee.  Dress shorts do not have cargo pockets on the pants’ legs.  Wearing dress shorts is optional – this is a parent’s choice.  Khaki or navy blue shorts may be purchased at any store or at suggested stores indicated below.  Girls may wear solid color crew socks in lieu of knee-hi socks during the warm weather uniform time periods.  The warm weather uniform policy will be reinstated on May 1st.

Benefits:

  • Allows students to focus on learning, instead of clothing or the costs associated with branded items.
  • Fosters a sense of community, and eliminates visual symbols of income levels.
  • Improves behavior, according to research, as students are less distracted and generally behave better with a consistent dress code

Below is an itemized description of our school uniform & gym attire. See complete dress code and uniform policy in parent-student handbook.

Out of Uniform

All guidelines regarding the uniform policy will be enforced. We would appreciate parental support in the effort to follow uniform guidelines. If a student must be out of uniform, a note explaining the reason is to be presented to the student’s homeroom teacher the day the student is out of uniform. Lack of participation in Physical Education due to being out of uniform will be reflected on the student’s report card.  Uniform notices will be issued by homeroom teachers.  Four warnings in one quarter will result in time spent after school with the principal: 20 minutes for grades K-4 and 30 minutes for grade 5.  Students in grades 6-8 will be issued demerits by their homeroom teachers.  Excessive disregard for the uniform policy indicates a lack of effort to improve the behavior and will result in an administrative review.
