The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD)

These days it is not hard to imagine having to choose between rent or health care, food or transportation, Household bills or clothing for your children.

For many Americans, these choices are forced by a recent layoff, pay freeze, or retirement fund decrease. For 37 million Americans who live below the poverty line, the options are only diminishing.

The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) makes a difference in low-income communities by funding programs that address the root causes of poverty. More than ever, CCHD needs your support in today's Collection. Thank you for your generosity.

The Memorare
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,

that never was it known

that anyone who fled to your protection,
implored your help or sought your intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother.
To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word incarnate, despise not my petitions, but, in your mercy,

hear and answer me. Amen.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

Men of Christ the King Parish age 18 and older are invited to join the neighborhood council of the Knights of Columbus, Why should you consider joining the Knights of Columbus.  Pope John XXIII thought it important. He said,” O Jesus, if one day with your help I can do any good, here I am in the ranks of your fighting men.”

The activity of the Knights revolves around four ideas:

Charity: For many years, Fr. Perez Council 1444 members have raised over $50,000 annually for disabled children at our local intersections. We will be on the corners again September16 and 17.

Unity: We thank God for the Pope and the teaching magisterium of the Catholic Church.

Fraternity: We give scholarships to member families who have freshmen entering Catholic high schools. We are very solicitous of members in need.

Patriotism: Fate might have placed us any- where in the world. We are thankful to citizens of the United States of America.

How to join: Look for an application in the back of church. Or go to 3422 W. 111th St. and knock on the door.

PRO LIFE NEWS AT CHRIST THE KING

MARRIAGE: LOVE AND LIFE IN THE DIVINE PLAN (Nov. 2009)

A Pastoral Letter by the Catholic Bishops of the United States

Marriage as a Christian Sacrament

Although marriage remains a blessing from God, Original Sin has had grave consequences for married life. As a break with God, it ruptured the original communion between man and woman.

Jesus healed this rupture when he raised marriage to the dignity of a sacrament. In marriage a man and woman become one flesh. They love each other as they love themselves and cherish each other's bodies as their own. This union is an image of Christ’s love for his Church. Spouses are called to give themselves to each other as fully as Christ gave himself to his Church.

When the baptized spouses exchange their promises of loving and permanent fidelity before the Church, their marriage covenant becomes a participation in the unbreakable covenant between Christ and the Church. The Holy Spirit binds the spouses together and enables them to perform acts of self-giving love to the benefit of themselves, their families, and the whole Church. In this way their marriage does more than symbolize Christ’s love; it makes that love present in the world.

In order to imitate Christ’s love for his Church, the relationship between man and woman needs healing. Their relationship is not a one-sided subjection of the wife to the husband, but a mutual subjection of husband and wife, following St. Paul’s charge to “be subordinate to one another out of reverence for Christ” (Eph 5:21)
