Gospel
Mk 1:7-11
This is what John the Baptist proclaimed:
“One mightier than I is coming after me.
I am not worthy to stoop and loosen the thongs of his sandals.
I have baptized you with water;
he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
It happened in those days that Jesus came from
Nazareth of Galilee
and was baptized in the Jordan by John.
On coming up out of the water he saw the heavens being torn open
and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon him.
And a voice came from the heavens,
“You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”
THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM
Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole
Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis
ianua),and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through
Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become
members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers
in her mission: "Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through
water and in the word."
The Sacrament of Baptism is the most beautiful thing that happens in someone's life.
Did you know that when someone is baptized, it means that God the Father, the Son, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, give the Christian many very special gifts?
To be baptized in the Catholic Church means more than being sprinkled with water on one's head and receiving a Christian name.
At Baptism, your child is welcomed with great joy into the larger Christian community, as well as into the parish family of Christ the King Parish.
In this sacrament, the parish community and the entire Christian community promise to help you in nurturing the faith of your child. We will help you, as parents and godparents to prepare for the baptism of your child on that special day.
- Required steps for having your child baptized.
If this is you first child, you are required to take a Baptismal Preparation Class. To do so, please call the Rectory at 773-238-4877 for a class schedule. If your schedule does not coincide with class schedule, other arrangements can be made.
Requirements for Godparents
Godparents are to be at least 16 years old and confirmed Catholic. They should be practicing their faith and willing to support their godchild in a life of faith.
Date and Times of Baptisms
May be celebrated at any of the weekend Masses at 1:00
